Finally got my permanent faculty ID!
The rain was pouring really hard this morning, which caused me to miss my class in the new campus of the University. I couldn't leave the house early enough, so I missed the coaster ride from the old campus to the new one, which is about an hour to an hour and a half away. I tried to commute all the way to the new campus, but when I got to the bus station, I found out it was more than a hundred pesos just to get to the city area where the campus is, then it's another forty to a hundred and fifty (!) pesos for a tricycle ride or two which would hopefully get me to the new campus from the city proper. It wasn't really worth it, and I didn't have enough cash in hand anyway to make the commute.
So I instead decided to just contact my students using the Facebook group their former instructor (and a good faculty friend and senior) had set up for their class. I'm still waiting for their replies and emails (I asked them to introduce themselves via email), hopefully they would all reply in a timely manner. Lesson learned though; brave the rain and leave an hour or so earlier as contingency. It's really one of my greatest weaknesses, punctuality. I'm trying my hardest to fix this though, being more responsible and mindful of my and other people's time >_<
Since I had so much extra time because of the missed class, I decided to meet with the other member of the teaching team for the subject I'm handling this term. The meeting went smoothly, we were able to iron out the schedule and the syllabus for the subject and we were even able to talk about the major programming project we would be giving our classes. I have never really talked to her as much in the past since I found her a bit intimidating, but she was really really nice! Hopefully my former students would learn from her more than they did from me, so they could finally overcome the misconceptions they might have had the first time they took the subject.
I also got to spend some time in the common area of the college faculty room and let me tell you, that place is crazy! I had initially thought that the college faculty was a quiet bunch of people, who only really got noisy when somebody instigates something, but again, was I wrong XD Maybe I should hang out by the common area a lot more often from time to time; while I like being in the company of the faith community I belong in the University (somebody I'd feature them in my blog), I think I should really try and get to know the other members of the faculty.
Yeah, I think I should do that.
Well, have a great Tuesday tomorrow! I have two classes tomorrow, hopefully this time I wouldn't miss them anymore XD
