Day 14: Violet's Diary and Machine Project Specs

Took me a bit of a while to complete, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out!

So today, I spent the better part of the day making an MSD scale (it's a BJD scale, if you've seen Violet, she's an MSD) book. If you remember a post not so long ago, I made a book for Violet, but that book looked more or less like a little binder than anything else. This time around, I tried to make a legitimate looking book,  using techniques actually used to bind paperbacks. Me and my girlfriend plan on selling books like these in her tiangge booth as I have mentioned before, and I really want to get this one done right. I'm quite satisfied with the end product :)

The way the pages were bound looked more or less up to par with a real paperback book, albeit an old one, and it actually feels like a book! I know I could do better with regards to trimming the pages to the right size, however. Bundling them and cutting them together with a craft knife probably isn't the best way to do this as I end up having a lot of extra burrs and badly trimmed pages. Hopefully I either perfect this technique more or I use a different method altogether to trim the pages to size before next weekend.

I turned it into a diary because the only thing I can think of to make the cover look decent is to cover it with electric tape. This gives it a leather-like feel, which reminds me of a diary or a planner. I made a little pen to go with it, because it seemed logical at that time to do so. The pen actually writes, as I made it out of the lead of a mechanical pencil, wrapped in varies tapes to simulate the body of a rather thick pen. Here are some photos of the diary being held by Violet for size reference:

I also wrote today the Machine Project specifications for my students. The Machine Project, or more colloquially referred to as the MP, is the major project students of my subject must pass as part of the requirements for the subject. For this term, the MP I made is a game that's inspired a little bit by Pokemon, some playground game and I guess the War of the Three Kingdoms XD Basically, the idea is you play this game with enemies to advance and ascend into Emperor-hood. You begin as a journeyman, and as you win your games against enemies, you gain ranks until you become Emperor.

So what is this game you play with enemies you ask? It's a variety of the playground game kids during my time (kids being relative, as I remembered I was still playing the game in High School) where the idea is to be the first to hit the enemy with an attack. Players make their move simultaneously, like rock paper scissors, and if your move happens to beat the move of your opponent, then you win. The catch is, moves cost charges to use, and before you can launch any move, you have to charge first, which uses up a turn. It's quite the strategic game actually!

Of course I had to modify it slightly to make it more MP level in terms of difficulty and complexity, but I think it'd still be quite fun to code and test. Here's to hoping my students would think the same about it.

Anyway, that's basically what I had been busy with today. Have a blessed Sunday tomorrow!
